Adrenaline coursing through his veins, Dan Moessner, senior, isn’t skydiving or in a high speed car chase. He is performing on stage at Battle of the Bands, which took place Thursday, Feb. 24.
Moessner played lead guitar in the band One Star People, which won the competition as well as $250.
One Star People is composed of Moessner; seniors Josh Bohm and Jacob Swim; and Drew Glick, junior.
Moessner said they played together only once before trying out for Battle of the Bands.
“We played together a total of four times,” Moessner said. “I was surprised when we won. There were a lot of good bands.”
Bohm formed One Star People when he told his friends he wanted to perform in Battle of the Bands. Bohm recruited Moessner and Swim to be in the band, which was originally called The Immediates. Later, a friend recommended Glick when the band needed a drummer.
They performed three songs at the event: “Stay With Me,” by the Faces; “Fortunate Song,” by Creedence Clearwater Revival; and “Nothin’ but a Good Time,” by Poison.
Votes from the audience and feedback from the three judges determined which band won the battle.
Bohm said the band received great feedback from the judges, and one of the judges, Matt Evanson from Wild Horse, even offered to hire him as a bass player.
When they found out they won, Bohm said they were very excited.
“There was much screaming and jumping about and such,” Bohm said.
This was not Glick’s first time on stage. He is currently in four different bands and has performed in different places already. Glick said he has learned when in a competition like this to not expect to win. However, now that One Star People won and Glick received his cut of the money, he is going to use it to buy “more drum stuff.”
“The people who didn’t come to the Battle of the Bands missed out,” Glick said. “They should come next year.”
Next on the agenda for One Star People is a possible show at the Pageant, opening for a band through Bohm’s connections.
“We like people that like us, so they should come see it,” Bohm said.
