Center Stage performs for elementary students

On Thursday, November 18, MHS’s show choir, Center Stage, visited different elementary schools throughout the district to perform five songs, two of which were from their competition set list.

Center Stage entertained elementary school classes at Ballwin Elementary, Wild Horse, Woerther, and Westridge. Some songs performed included pieces from the musicals In the Heights and Rent. They also performed a boys’ number and a girls’ number from Glee.

Amanda Carvalho, senior, said the elementary students seemed to really like their upbeat songs, and the girls’ sparkly outfits.

“I really liked traveling with the other Center Stage kids,” Carvalho said. “It brought us together more.”

Last year was the first year they did this, but Jason Winter, choir director, said he is hoping it will become an annual event.

Winter said the elementary school students seemed excited to have them perform, and they received lots of positive feedback.

“My favorite part is the students get a chance to get out and perform and the looks on the elementary kids’ faces when they see these high schoolers coming to their school,” Winter said. “Also it gives Center Stage members the opportunity to get to know each other better.
