Ashlyn Maxwell, junior, looked at her Spotify Wrapped today and saw that her top five artists were Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, Megan Maroney, Morgan Wallen and Lana Del Rey.
“I definitely was expecting some of them. I wasn’t expecting the last two because I feel like I only had phases with them, but I’m not mad about it,” Maxwell said.
Each year, during the months of November and December, the Spotify Wrapped is released to the public. This is a feature of Spotify that lets you know who you listened to this year, what songs and genres you listened to, and how much you listened to them.
Spotify Wrapped started in 2016 and has released each year since.
Maxwell said she uses Spotify in order to listen to music as soon as it comes out.
“People I see on TikTok that make music normally put it on Spotify before anything,” Maxwell said.
Maxwell enjoys listening to music in her free time and when she needs to focus.
“Music clears my head,” Maxwell said. “If I need to lock in on some school work, I just put some headphones in.”
Marin Lally, senior, also uses Spotify as her primary way to listen to music.
“I don’t drive anywhere in my car without music,” Lally said. “I listen to it every day.”
Her top 5 artists were Drake, Zach Bryan, Future, Gunna and Noah Kahan.
“I would say there’s a bit more rap in mine this year,” Lally said. “Other than that, Drake’s always my top artist.”
Her listening time was 40,159 minutes for the year. She said the reason she listens to it so much is that her family has the Spotify Wrapped Family Plan.
Christian Kelly, senior, was concerned his results would be skewed due to “One Call” by Rich Amiri being the song he chose for his morning alarm. Sure enough, Rich Amiri was his number two artist and “One Call” was his most listened song of the year.
He listened to 33,988 minutes this year and his top artists were Bruno Mars, Rich Amiri, Kenshi Yonezu, Yeat, and Kanye West.
“Music has a huge role in my life, mostly when I’m focusing on something like working out or playing video games,” Kelly said.
Kelly said although he heard a lot about Spotify Wrapped on social media recently, there hasn’t been much buzz about it at school compared to last year, when he feels his friends were more excited about it.
“The only reason I use Spotify is because my family has the family plan, so I don’t have a reason to subscribe to a different service,” Kelly said.
