Walking through Fright Fest, sophomore Yuvan Kiran looked up to see trees covered in string lights and scary decorations adoring the walls.
Halloween-themed music blasted through the speakers, with popular hits like “Monster Mash” and “Ghostbusters” playing on repeat.
According to STLToday, Fright Fest was just 1 of more than 40 Halloween events happening in St. Louis this year.
Other examples include Pumpkin Land at Thies Farm from Sept. 28 to Oct 31; Fright at the Museum at the City Museum from Sept. 28 to Oct. 26; and Halloween Nights at Grant’s Farm from Oct. 3 to Oct. 27.
Two of the most popular events are The Boo at the Zoo and Fright Fest.
The Boo at the Zoo is annually held at the St. Louis Zoo. This event is marketed towards people of all ages and allows people to enjoy festive decorations and a non-scary Halloween experience.
From Sept. 13 to Nov. 3, Six Flags holds its annual Fright Fests known for its haunted houses, scare zones and its experience of riding roller coasters in the dark.
Kiran has been to multiple Halloween events; he went to the Boo at the Zoo this year and has attended Fright Fest in past years.
He said he liked Fright Fest a lot more than the Boo at the Zoo because of the rides.
“I like Mr. Freeze because it’s more fun at night, and it has more thrills,” Kiran said.
Kiran said the best part of events like Fright Fest is being able to hang out with friends while experiencing Halloween themes.
Grey Burnett, junior, attended Fright Fest last year.
Burnett said the event can be very scary, and that the Scares, which are actors who are dressed up to frighten people, are the creepiest part.
“The scares were cool,” Burnett said. “It’s kinda nerve wracking because you never know when you’re gonna get scared, but it’s fun.”
Hailey Smith, sophomore, attended her first Halloween event this year, the Boo at the Zoo.
Smith said the event was very fun because it was self paced. Smith liked the caricatures, photo booths and Halloween decorations displayed.
“I just really liked going with people, definitely liked the social aspect of it,” Smith said. Smith also said the event’s mood was another part she enjoyed.
“It was just kind of a fun, festive atmosphere,” Smith said. “Lots of cute little kids in costumes. Everyone was meant to be happy.”
