The Smokehouse Market at 16806 Chesterfield Airport Rd isn’t technically a restaurant, but deep inside the market they make sandwiches, both hot and cold, as well as soups. The “market” aspect is fulfilled through their variety of pies, meats and unique sodas among other foods.

The sandwiches range from delis to barbeque sandwiches. Ordering is easy as you just go to the area with the menu. Then a worker asks if you want a hot or cold sandwich and directs you to a line. From there, another worker takes your order and starts preparing your food right in front of you, which adds a homemade feel to the market. They put your sandwich in a white box and then you get to choose a drink from the fridge off to the side.

Their specialty lay in their unique sodas such as  the ginger beer soda, which was a very different flavor and a canned Gatorade, which I’ve never seen before. The Ginger beer had a flavor that resembled somewhere between a mix of root beer and ginger ale. Drinking Gatorade out of a can was a whole new experience.

I chose the K&W beef brisket sandwich with a can of lemon-lime Gatorade. The K&W has beef, onions and horseradish sauce on rye bread. The flavor was delicious as it has a great contrast between the crunch of the onions and the juicy and tender meat with a basic flavor that is just complex enough to be good. To bring it all together, the rye bread soaks up all the flavors that would usually be lost.

Shelves and stands throughout the market are scattered around loaded up with pies, seasonings and many other goods. And along the sides are where you can order your sandwich along with grab a drink of your choice. (Media by Jacob Robinson (he/him) )

The service was a bit slow, and it took about 10 minutes to get my food, but it was well worth the wait.

However, it is a little pricey for what you are getting. I spent $10 on the sandwich alone. The sandwich is quite filling though, and if you are willing to spend that amount, I would highly recommend it.

As for the customer service, it’s really good. All the workers are friendly and willing to help with whatever you are looking for. However, I will say it felt crowded inside as there wasn’t much standing room.

I would recommend trying The Smokehouse Market as it had excellent flavor and many options to choose from. There were a variety of sauces for your sandwich along with a wide variety of many different sodas and other beverages to choose from. Though it is on the pricey side, it is ultimately worth it. Overall I would rate The Smokehouse Market a 3/5 stars.
