“Punisher” Preview
With the “Punisher” Netflix series trailer coming out last week fervor for the character is high. The trailer plays it close to the chest, only showing us a little of the story, but plenty of the brutal action we were hoping for. In the trailer, we are introduced to Data, The Punisher’s partner in killing criminals. Data finds them and The Punisher kills them.
In the trailer, we see a stylised look that we are familiar with through the other Marvel Netflix shows. This suits the Punisher well as it gives him a very dark, but down to earth, real gritty feel. This in conjunction with the fact that The Punisher is always color corrected with blue in comparison to the Marvel Netflix show’s having a primarily warm yellow color corrected environment. This sets him apart and drives home the point that the Punisher is not like anyone else in those shows. He is not a Defender he is not like Daredevil. He has no regard for the lives of those he deems to be guilty.
This trailer put to rest my worries that Netflix would tune down the brutality, even though the platform does allow for more freedom. It is obviously John Wick inspired, we see this when he is clearing rooms moving from target to target without stopping his advance. This suits The Punisher perfectly, as he is portrayed as an unstoppable force, literally continuing his advance through gunfire and death.
Needless to say, I am excited to see the show. The Punisher is one of my favorite characters and I have very high expectations for the show.
If you need your Punisher fix now may I suggest Punisher MAX. The comic ran from 2004-2009. The 6 collected volumes are available on Kindle for cheap, but also on paperback for a bit more. It is the grittiest definitive Punisher. I highly suggest it.

Love this article. Been psyched for this show ever sense they announced it. The trailer did a great job of really selling the show without giving up too much of the plot. Thanks for writing this !
