Allison Tichenor, sophomore, is one out of the five girls on MHS varsity golf team that is going to state.
She has been playing golf since she was about 6 years old, along with playing soccer and swimming for MHS.
“I was happy,” Tichenor said, when asked about how she felt after she realized she was going to state.
State is by Jefferson City, yesterday and today (Oct. 21 and Oct. 22).
Missing class is difficult for many students because they have to make up work while working on the current work. Tichenor has had to make up a lot of schoolwork because of leaving for golf multiple times.
Golf was undefeated all season in conference. The golf team made it up to sectionals and in sectionals placed 5th. Since the golf team all together didn’t qualify for state, each of the players, not on the qualifying teams, get ranked to see who is top 15 to move on to state.
Tichenor shot an 89 at sectionals which placed her in the top 15. The cut off for the top 15 was a score of 91, so Tichenor just made the cut.
At state, Tichenor hopes to shoot mid 80’s and be in the top 20 girls.
