National Art Honors Society is a club at MHS, and also a national organization, with the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art.
Jessie Darnell, senior, is the president of NAHS. Darnell said that NAHS is an organization that uses art as a source for community outreach and volunteering.
“We paint a lot of murals around school,” Darnell said. “Last year we did a benefit art show where all proceeds went to a student at Marquette’s family.”
Darnell said NAHS is very rewarding for the members and they can use their art to benefit the school.
There are about 15 members in NAHS and the club meets about twice a week.
“You can apply for NAHS each year,” Darnell said. “You have to have a certain amount of art classes and report your grades in those classes.”
Amanda Song, senior, is the secretary of the National Art Honors Society at MHS. Song said that mainly the group works on murals around the school.
“We’re working on a mural in the science hallway by the chemistry labs,” Song said. “Next we’re planning to do a Renaissance mural on the third floor.”
Song said that NAHS has also participated in creating a mural at the YMCA last year and plans to work with the Booterflies organization.
“The murals bring joy to people and add brightness to the school,” Song said.
Song said when applying, along with recording all your art classes, also add your ideas for activities for NAHS to participate it. Mrs. Zemann, AP art studio teacher, is the sponsor of NAHS.
