On Saturday, Feb. 4, the MHS baseball program is holding the 5th annual “Winter Warm Up” trivia night at the CrossWalk Banquet Center at St. John’s Church. John Meyer, varsity coach, said the event is only for people 21 and up due to the fact that it is held at an off-campus site and alcohol will be served.
Meyer said the event has been successful in the four years he has been running it. He said the money raised from the evening has been used for field improvements, a batting cage, and a pitching machine. This year the money is paying for the team’s Spring Break trip to Memphis.
Meyer said the night includes seven rounds of trivia to mimick the seven innnings of a high school baseball game and a silent auction with many great items, and a raffle for an iPad.
“The auction items include a helicopter ride, a David Freese signed baseball, and there is even one that has a chef going to the winner’s house and making a meal for eight,” Meyer said. “It’s going to be a pretty cool night.”
The event usually raises $10,000-$15,000 with $2,500 in expenses, Meyer said. He said the goal for this year is to gross about $12,000. Meyer said the event is great for the program.
“The trivia night is a huge resource for us,” Meyer said. “It has allowed us to do things we wouldn’t otherwise been able to do.”
