Saint Louis City SC Home Game Success
The crowd roared and chanted as the drum core sounded with the first St. Louis City SC’s goal scored during the very first home game on Saturday.
“We ended up standing for the whole game,” Jim Kremer, substitute teacher, said.
Kremer said that as soon as tickets were available, he put a deposit down to get season tickets.
“There were 60 thousand requests for 20 thousand-something seats,” Kremer said.
Kremer said the soccer team will be very big in St. Louis for a very long time.
Tara Harrow, art teacher, also went to the sold-out Saturday game and had a great experience.
“The crowd was so excited,” Harrow said. “Everyone was so happy, and so polite, and it was just really a fun atmosphere.”
Harrow said everyone had been waiting for so long for the STL City soccer game that they were just incredibly happy, which made it different from a normal cardinals game.
“It was like a Cardinals playoff game,” Harrow said.
Harrow said the highlight of the game for her was when Miguel Pirez, midfielder, from Pattonville High School came out onto the field because he is only 17.
Harrow said she was excited because soccer is finally something she was interested in more than baseball and hockey.
Samantha Berger, senior, was in attendance at the first home game.
Berger’s dad scored season tickets for the family in hopes of supporting the new professional soccer team. Based on Samantha’s experience at the game, it’s safe to say she thought it was worth it.
“It was crazy,” Berger said. “I was standing the entire time cheering.”
Unlike Samantha, Nia Ovcharova, senior, did not have the privilege of viewing the game in person but said it was just as exciting watching it from work at Forest Hills Country Club.
“The energy was intense,” Ovcharova said. “I would love to see the game in person, but it was still fun to see at work.”
Ovcharova has high hopes for the team and can already see the positive impact they’ve had on Saint Louis.
”They have been doing very good,” she said. “I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon.”
Saint Louis City SC is scheduled to play against Portland, March 11th.
