Mustangs Vs Parkway Central (Pre-Game)
Location: Marquette High School, Big Gym
Date and time: 1/12, 7:00 PM
Records: MHS (7-4), PCHS (10-3)
About MHS: The Mustangs have dropped two straight to Webster Groves and SLUH, strong opponents that were able to hinder Jason Montgomery, the powerhouse of the MHS offense. This shows the unfortunate flaw of the Mustangs. If you stop Montgomery, you stop the team. That isn’t to down play the abilities of the other players on the team, but simply to point out that the offense is heavily built off of him. Montgomery is the only top 25 player the boys basketball team has here at MHS in any category. MHS is just 1-4 when Montgomery scores less than 20 points, and perfect when he scores above that. And now that they’re going up against yet another powerful defense in Parkway Central, they need to keep all this weight off his shoulder.
About PCHS: The Longhorns have a similar issue, Deandre campbell, the 4th leading scorer in the greater St Louis area and has 26.3 points per game, is the main portion of the PCHS offense, regularly scoring almost half of the team’s points. And with 227 shots taken this season, way more than the next two long horns combined, Campbell is given a lot of shots and chances. If he’s stopped, it seems that the most pivotal and important part of the PCHS offense will be put on hold. The only issue is whether or not you can still score on them.
