Jim Kremer, technology teacher, holds numerous titles at MHS including Project Lead the Way-master teacher, technology department head, and freshmen wrestling coach.
This year he is accepting a new title as assistant coach for the track and field program for both guys and girls.
Activities Director Mark Linneman said Kremer will take over coaching the throwing events in track and field.
“Coach Corey Hoots left the program as our throws coach because he got a teaching job in another country,” Linneman said.
Linneman said Kremer was chosen for the position because the track and field program needed someone with a background in throwing events.
“Coach Kremer has been at Marquette for a long time and knows many of the students,” Linneman said. “It should be a smooth transition for all involved. He was a successful track participant in those events himself, including college. His background in that area, plus his knowledge of Marquette, will be very helpful.”
Ryan Kincade, senior, threw discus last year but is undecided about this year.
Kincade said having Kremer as a coach will be good because of all of his credentials.
“Kremer will definitely be helpful to the team this year,” Kincade said.
If he decides to throw this year, Kincade said he hopes to make it to state and place.
Before he became a teacher, Kremer was an athlete in both high school and college.
“I was a discus and shot putter in high school, and I threw the javelin and discus at Northeast Missouri State,” Kremer said.
This is not Kremer’s first time being a track and field coach.
Kremer said many years ago he was the head track coach for the boy’s team at MHS and decided to come back as an assistant coach because he enjoys coaching track.
The season is barely underway and Kremer already knows how he will help the throwers to better themselves.
“I intend to use a lot of technology,” Kremer said. “I will video a lot of practice and meet throws and use them for evaluation.”
Even though this is his first year as a throwing coach, Kremer has high hopes for the track and field team’s throwers.
“I have heard for years that the throwers at Lafayette are the best around,” Kremer said. “I want to get Marquette to be the dominant throwers school, and I would really love to get multiple throwers to state both boys and girls!”
