Lindsey Jordan, Varsity Mystique coach, took the varsity team to the UDA National Dance Championships in Orlando, FL. They left on Friday, Feb. 3, and returned Monday, Feb. 6. The trip was around 700 dollars because of the cost of airfare, food, hotel and park passes for Walt Disney World.
Lena Kuhlenbeck, senior, said the schedule for the team was waking up Saturday morning at 3:45, and performing the very first kicks routine of the day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Then they switched parks to compete in poms. While waiting for the results, the team laid out by the pool at the hotel and swam. The results came back and the team made it to semi-finals, and performed the routines again Saturday night. The ending result of the whole competition was 20 out of 65 in kicks, and 17 out of 34 in poms.
“Being a senior, it was amazing to be able to end my Mystique experience with this,” Kuhlenbeck said, “I can’t believe it is almost over.”
Taylor Disper, junior, said the trip was an amazing experience.
“Performing on that huge stage with all my friends was the most unbelievable feeling,” Disper said, “There is just nothing like it.”
Disper said since they had Sunday off, everyone went to Magic Kingdom to ride rollercoasters, see attractions, eat, and have bonding time.
The Mystique program has been to this championship before, but not in four years. Jordan said the team has done great so far, and they had the money, so that was the reason they were able to go.
Disper said she is overall very happy about the outcome of the entire trip.
“I am proud of my teammates, and I think this trip brought us together in a different and great way,” Disper said.
