The Valley was always missing something. There’s every chain restaurant imaginable, a Wal-Mart and even an ice rink. The only thing missing was a delicious dessert place where teenagers could go just to hang out.
Finally, the extremely popular frozen yogurt chain, FroYo, opened in the Valley. There are FroYo locations in the Loop and off Olive Blvd, and now, there’s a location closer to home.
FroYo is designed in a unique format. Customers walk to the back of the store and pick up a cup and have multiple flavor options for yogurt. There are the standard flavors like vanilla and chocolate, but FroYo also offers flavors like red velvet cake, Reese’s peanut butter cup and strawberry banana.
Once the customers have their yogurt, they come across a table full of toppings like granola, fresh fruit, candy and sauces. The interesting thing about FroYo is that they charge by the ounce so people can control how much they pay for each cup.
Here’s where the problem occurs: there’s very limited seating. There are a few tables and a long counter along the window with stools, but on a Saturday night, that’s not nearly enough seats. I predict that after hockey games or football games during the school year, FroYo will be one of the few places students will go to get food and meet up with friends. That poses a huge problem because there’s no way that the tiny store will fit even a fourth of the fans.
I made the mistake of going on a Saturday night so finding seats was difficult. Once I did though, I could focus on the delicious creation I had just made.
The nice thing about FroYo is there are so many options that a person could make a relatively healthy fruit creation but the next time they visit, they could make an extreme chocolate cup.
I made a classic cup of vanilla frozen yogurt with fruity pebbles, marshmellows. strawberries, bananas, blueberries and gummy bears. It only cost me about $3.50 for a pretty delicious snack.
The location of FroYo is perfect for a date night or even just a meetup place for friends. It’s across the street from the Chesterfield Galaxy movie theater and by other restaurants.
Overall, I loved FroYo and I would go back every weekend if I could.
