Review: A Quiet Place
A new movie has come across the screens, causing a huge hype along teens: A Quiet Place. Is this movie really worth the all hype?
The movie came out on Thursday, April 6, 2018. The well-known actor John Krasinski directed and starred in it as the father. His real-life wife, Emily Blunt, joined him in the movie as the father’s wife. This is one of the attractions that led to people wanting to see this in theaters. I think it’s adorable that they are married in real life and in the movie.
A Quiet Place takes place in a futuristic society where alien-like creatures have taken over the Earth. These creatures have no ability to see but they have extremely sensitive hearing. They attack anyone and anything that makes a noise. The Abbott family are in this mess of a society and have adapted to life with it. Lee Abbott, the father, studies the creatures as much as he can to figure out their weakness but he struggles to figure it out.
Just like any other thriller movie, something must go wrong and cause the creatures to come and attack. Evelyn Abbott, the mother, is pregnant and goes into labor while the creatures break into the house. The kids fall into the corn tower causing lots of sound. The family must work together to either escape the creatures or kill the creatures.
I went to this movie with my hopes high because most of the comments about this movie are positive. The movie wasn’t what I thought it would be. The amount of silence was slightly uncomfortable since it’s unusual for modern movies to be silent. Although it was uncomfortable at first, the silence really worked for the movie. It added more suspense to the film.
I walked in expecting a horror to leave me with nightmares but the movie was not scary. It was more suspenseful. The only jump scares were the abrupt changes in sound but even that wasn’t too bad. I was disappointed that it wasn’t scary but I was satisfied with how great this movie turned out. The plot was very unique and creative. I’ve seen shows and movies that have aliens with sensitive hearing but this was a different approach to it. The difference is that the alien event was apostolic.
Overall, this was a great movie if you like a little suspense. If this sounds interesting but you don’t like horror movies, don’t worry. There isn’t many scary scenes or jump scares. The movie was very unique and has a different approach to the futuristic “aliens are going to take over the world” theory.
