Oreo Cakester

Just upon looking at the package of the Oreo Cakesters: Peanut Butter flavor, we had a feeling it would be a delicious sweet treat. From the fun quality picture and font displayed on the bright blue package, we were excited to dig in.

When we opened the package we were greeted by three cakes that seemed to be two-bite portions. It appeared to be a puffed up, cake version of an Oreo. The filling looked marshmallow-like.

Oreo Cakester

The first bite was moist and chewy. These cakes just have an incredible texture. The top and bottom cake sandwich pieces had a rich chocolate flavor that reminded us of a Hostess cupcake, both in the texture and flavor categories.

However, the filling was kind of disappointing. There was only a slight hint of the peanut butter flavor and the cake-to-filling ratio was not appetizing. Paired with the cake, the filling wasn’t that bad but on its own, but it was nothing special.

On the Oreo website, they described these as soft snack cakes that are a twist on a classic treat and a good snack for all ages, but claiming this as both an adult lunch snack, party snack and office snack is a big reach. Someone younger may enjoy these as a regular dessert or snack, but we don’t see an adult eating these regularly.

Overall, we would rate these a 7/10 because they were pretty tasty, but have room for improvement. With a few tweaks to the formula, we think this product has potential.

Kit Kat Duos: Strawberry + Dark Chocolate

Have a break...from relationships. Specifically, with a Kit Kat bar that tastes exactly like store bought chocolate covered strawberries. With a hint of artificial strawberry flavoring and a soft taste of dark chocolate, you can cutely cry yourself to sleep on a Valentine’s night while eating a Kit Kat.

We reviewed the KitKat Duos: Strawberry + Dark Chocolate and to our surprise, it wasn't that bad.

The recommended serving size are three sticks, with each serving being 160 calories. The bar comes with 8 sticks in total. A whole container is 420 calories, which is helped with the 37 grams of straight up pure cane sugar. Aside from the nutritional value, it's not too bad.

Kit Kat Duos: Strawberry + Dark Chocolate

I was expecting it to have a Strawberry Pocky taste, but to my surprise it didn’t. For reference, I don't like the Strawberry Pocky sticks.

If you have ever gone to the grocery store and bought a container of strawberries, came home and forgot about them a couple days later, you’ll love the last of these babies. The strawberry is very apparent. It was...interesting to say the least. But the after taste was so worth it, due to the rush of dark chocolate you get from it.

I 100% see this being catered toward more heartbroken adolescence, rather than adults with an actual life.

I give this a 8/10. It tasted good the first couple of sticks, but then the taste starts to get overwhelming the more you eat. It kind of gave me a simultaneous tooth and head ache.

Jet-Puffed Gummies

Gummy and marshmallow— two of the most commonly loved candies combined into one monstrosity known as Jet-Puffed Gummies.

At first glance, this candy may seem like a delicious candy advancement. However, after tasting it, we instantly revised our hypothesis.

When we opened the packaging, we were greeted with sugar-coated, colorful gummy candies. Some, as promised by the packaging, smiled up at us. Others, were misshapen and mortifying.

The leading ingredient in Jet-Puffed Gummies is sugar, followed by glucose syrup, water and "flavor." What flavor? Nobody knows. If you eat this entire package in one sitting, you will be getting 100% of the recommended amount of added sugar for the day.

Jet-Puffed Gummies

According to Blair Candy, the candy is described as “a delightful marriage of fluffy marshmallow and tangy blue raspberry flavors, all packed into one irresistible gummy!” We disagree.

There was no trace of blue raspberry in any of the gummies, not even the blue one. The marshmallows were not fluffy, but instead sticky and hard, similar to that of a stale Peep.

The exterior is nearly impossible to get through. The hundreds of sugar molecules don't help either. After finally breaking through, we were met with a sticky mess of marshmallow.

There wasn’t much of an aftertaste, but the taste to begin with wasn’t horrible.

We rated the product as a whole a six and a half out of ten. Broken down, the candy was a two and a half out of five, and the box was a four out of five.

Twix Cookie Dough

If you’re looking for dry, crumbly and salty cookie dough bites, the Twix Cookie Dough is for you. The Twix Cookie Dough looks like dog food and tastes even worse.

The packaging of the product is deceptive. We expected bright caramel colored bites. Instead, we saw sad dog kibble. The cookie dough bites have hardly any visible chocolate chips with some having none at all, unlike the packaging shows. It also has a lot of visible salt that rubs off on the fingers.

Twix Cookie Dough

Ignoring our first impressions, we dug in expecting the flavor of a traditional Twix candy bar. Instead, the only flavor in these bite-sized pieces of dough was salt. With only 5% sodium in the nutrition facts, salty wasn't the only flavor we expected.

The inconsistency was almost as disappointing as the texture, which was crumbly and dry. We were upset with the texture considering most cookie dough bites are chewy and moist, nice as a snack alone or as a topping.

We had high expectations considering our previous experience with the Twix chocolate bar.

In the end, we give the Twix dough bites a 3.5/10, with a disappointing taste and visible salt. We recommend these to only those low in sodium looking for a nasty solution.

The summer of ‘23 broke many societal barriers and brought revolutionary changes with the release of the Barbie and Oppenheimer movies leading to an intense face-off between viewers (Barbenheimer). Summer temperatures broke barriers as well, in that it was the hottest, most ravenous summer of the 2020 decade. Hoping to do the same, many companies attempted
the recreation of the churro in the form of sweet treats from ice creams to candy bars.

Amid this revolutionary era, Kit Kat dropped their Limited Edition Churro Flavored Bar.

Aiming to defy expectations, this bar was designed to offer a new twist on the traditional churro flavor. However, replicating the classic churro's cinnamon, sugar and doughy texture proved challenging, and Kit Kat fell short of capturing the authentic taste.

Kit Kat Churro Bar

We decided to give this supposed churro bar a taste test. Ripping open the bag, we were hit by the raw scent of the churro, giving us some initial hope that the flavor would exceed our expectations. However, we were instantly disappointed as the infuriating taste of cake batter hit our taste buds.

No cinnamon, no sugar and no churro flavor were found within the candy bar. Compared to a normal chocolate KitKat, it was more stale, waxy, and sticky. When we pressed lightly in the middle, the bar snapped in half instantly, making it less sturdy than the usual Kit Kat bar we all know and love.
“It tastes like cardboard, cinnamon-flavored cardboard,” said one of our peers, and we wholeheartedly agreed.

This candy hit us with an oversweet and peculiar aftertaste, destroying our expectations and lowering our initial excitement for it. The traditional taste of a crispy, warm churro went missing in the making of the Kit Kat Churro Bar, leaving the majority
unsatisfied.

Rice Krispies Strawberry

Rice Krispies cereal and strawberries sounds like a delicious breakfast, but how does it fare as a candy bar? Today we tried the Rice Krispies Strawberry Candy Bar, a sweet treat that puts this question to the test.

The packaging depicts a thin pink bar with a fluffy-looking center. Snap, Crackle and Pop ‒ the Rice Krispies mascots ‒ dance around the brand logo and candy bar. When we tore open the packaging, the candy looked appetizingly pink with a
textured surface. The bar has a spattering of Rice Krispies cereal with a white chocolate base that is artificially flavored to taste like strawberries.

The bar is split into two sections. Those sections are further sectioned off into four pieces for breaking, similar to a Hershey’s Chocolate bar.

Rice Krispies Strawberry

The Krispies fail to make an appearance in the flavor profile. On the first bite, we were bombarded with the taste of white chocolate and fake strawberries. Unlike the thin candy bar’s appearance on the packaging, the bar proved to be thick and the flavor powerful.

After several bites of the bar, the creamy strawberry flavor began to have an odd aftertaste. The taste sat in our mouths for several minutes, even after trying to wash it down with water the flavor persisted.

The bar had a pleasant crunch to it but after further chewing it was incredibly creamy. A heavy feeling sat on our tongues as we ate and it grew to be unpleasant, it’s reminiscent of the last chocolate bars at the bottom of a Halloween basket.

Rice Krispies’ Strawberry Candy Bar isn’t the worst thing we’ve ever eaten, but it certainly isn’t a do-over.
