Dr. Terry Adams took over as Interim Superintendent for the Rockwood School District in July after serving for seven years as the Superintendent of the Wentzville School District. Dr. Adams has 38 years of experience in education, and said he’s excited to keep working with students.
“They’re my kids,” Dr. Adams said in a speech at Crestview Middle School on Thursday. “I’ve asked every teacher to take care of my kids.”
Dr. Adams said he has never had 22,000 in a district before, and is excited about his new job and welcoming new students into his family.
“I have the opportunity to be a part of a great district,” Dr. Adams said. “I like people and I’ve met a lot of good ones here.”
Dr. Adams said he wants students to see him as approachable.
“I’ll be at a lot of your activities,” he said. “If you come up to me [and introduce yourself] at an event, I’d like that.”
Dr. Adams said he is going to focus on the district’s goals, which have already been laid out by the school board. He ultimately wants to be there for students.
“I want to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable to achieve at the highest levels,” he said.
Principal Dr. Greg Mathison said he met Dr. Adams three years ago when he took a class for his doctoral program called “The Superintendency” taught by Dr. Adams.
“You know Dr. Adams really cares about kids,” Dr. Mathison said. “That’s what we’re all about, and for the superintendent to reflect that is contagious.”
Dr. Mathison said Dr. Adams has been to MHS three times since he came into office.
Kameron Murray, seinor, said he is excited for the new Super Intendant.
He said, he thinks that the transition for him [Dr. Adams] will be difficult with all the changes like the new teachers.
Murray said there are still more changes to be made.
“We need to change the tech policies. We need more freedom in class. I understand, we are allowed to bring laptops and IPads to school but we are so restricted”.
“But, I think he will be better [than Borchers]. I’m really excited for him”, said Murray.
