Prom: a magical night of fantasy, romance and fun. For MHS, Prom took place Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m. with the theme “A Red Carpet Affair” at The Millennium Hotel. For two students, seniors Molly McGee and Dan Lasker, Prom meant more than just a dance. McGee was crowned Prom Queen, and Lasker was crowned Prom King.
McGee and Lasker didn’t know they were nominated for Prom Court until early in the week before Prom, when they were called down to the office. To be nominated for Court, a person had to receive at least 20 nominations. Prom Court was composed of 10 people in total, or five couples. Students then voted for King and Queen at Prom.
“My mom was ecstatic when she found out,” McGee said. “I’m shocked and honored at the same time. I didn’t think this was going to happen at all.”
McGee received a tiara, a sash and a bouquet of flowers.
Lasker also said he was surprised when he won.
“I really didn’t expect to win at all,” Lasker said. “But I think I won because I have such supportive friends. They got all their friends to vote for me.”
Lasker said Prom this year was more fun than Prom last year.
“This year was a lot more exciting and nerve-wracking, considering what happened,” Lasker said.
McGee said Prom now holds special meaning for her.
“It’s definitely something I’ll never forget,” McGee said.
