Every year, the sculpture classes make projects made up entirely of some form of an object, like odds and ends borrowed from a teacher.
The MHS staff was informed that the sculpture classes would be on the lookout for any items that could create a fun piece of art that teachers let them use.
The project is normally the resemblance of an animal, like an elephant sculpture made out of Barbie accessories and shoes. But this year Monica Maher, art teacher, decided to let her students make a sculpture out of objects that resemble themselves just not in the way most would think, Maher said.
The representation is a collage of objects that all work together to help describe the student’s personality, Maher said.
Some of the most common objects used in this project are items like jewelry, books, buttons, wires, screws, or even game pieces and hot wheels, Maher said.
Besides collecting objects from teachers around school, students are allowed to bring possible art pieces from home or from garage sales that have more unique items to choose from, Maher said.
“The cooler the object, the better the project,” Maher said.
