To celebrate Halloween and the spooky season, librarians Raymond Holmes and Brittany Sharitz held a one-time horror book club event with spooky themed crafts, snacks and a book recommendation discussion during mod 2 of Ac Lab on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
“We do this every year around Halloween, partly just to have a fun way for students who like horror stories or scary, thriller type stories to meet up and just have a little community to talk with each other,” Holmes said.
Holmes said the library is also holding a two-sentence horror story contest which is due tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 31.
Principal Dr. Tracey Waeckerle said MHS teachers and staff will have a costume contest tomorrow.
“This morning we said ‘Should we have a costume contest for the staff?’, and people said yes,” Dr. Waeckerle said. “They just have to submit photos; I created a Google Drive for people to just dump pictures.”
Dr. Waeckerle said she plans on dressing up.
I have a bin of stuff my kids have worn in the past, so I’ll find something,” she said.
Jennifer Holman, biomedical science teacher, has a history of dressing up on Halloween.
“I’ve had a colleague already tell me that they weren’t gonna dress up because they knew I was,” Holman said. “I’m gonna keep it baseline and let everybody participate; I don’t want to intimidate anybody.”
Holman said she hasn’t completely decided on her costume for tomorrow.
It could be anything; it’s a surprise,” Holman said. “I’m thinking I’m gonna go biomedical related though. I’ve got to try and keep it class-themed.”
Holman said there’s a lot of joy in dressing up.
“It’s just fun to get people to react and see something different, get a giggle,” Holman said.
After school, Georgia Fleming, sophomore, plans to celebrate halloween tomorrow with her family.
“I’ll just be hanging out with my family around a fire pit and probably go to a few houses to get some candy for myself and to give to little kids,” Fleming said.
Hanna Patterson, senior, said she might go trick or treating with her friend just for the fun of it.
“I’m gonna be a mob boss and he’s gonna wear his suit,” Patterson said. “We don’t feel like going to our friend’s party, so we’re just gonna hang out and have a good time.”
