Supermodel Pasta: Is it Worth the Hype?
I keep seeing everyone rave about Gigi Hadid’s pasta recipe all over my TikTok “For You” page. So, as the foodie I am, I decided to give it a try.
Because I can only cook basic foods like scrambled eggs, grilled cheese and Ramen noodles, this was a challenge.
I was pleasantly surprised with how easy and accessible this recipe was. I had almost all the ingredients in my pantry already, and the ingredients I didn’t have I was able to find at Schnucks. You can find the recipe easily on Pinterest.
The recipe calls for olive oil, red onion, garlic cloves, tomato paste, heavy cream, salt and pepper, pasta water, parmesan and any pasta shape of your choice. You need a sauce pan to cook the sauce and a pan deep enough to boil your pasta.
I first began with making the sauce. Pouring in olive oil, red onion and garlic cloves, I finished the base of the sauce. Once the red onions were perfectly sauteed, I added in the correct measurements of the tomato paste and heavy cream. This is where the magic began to happen.
While the sauce was left to simmer, I boiled the pasta, which was a huge mistake. Pasta takes a lot longer than you think to cook. While the pasta was cooking, the sauce began to break, meaning the oil was separating from the rest of the sauce.
After waiting what felt like eons for the pasta to finish cooking, I set some pasta water over to the side and drained the rest. Then, I added some pasta water and the pasta, which solved the problem. The sauce looked uniform and smelled divine.
I added some parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to finish the pasta. I gently laid the pasta in a bowl and garnished with more parmesan and some basil for flavor. The entire process took me about 30 to 40 minutes. However, I think it would have taken less if I’d have timed the pasta and sauce correctly.
I took my first bite and was immediately blown away. I assumed the pasta was overhyped and that I was going to be disappointed, but that was not the case.
The sauce just melted right in my mouth, and the fresh parmesan and basil topped it off. The flavors mixed together so well. I tasted the tomato, onion, garlic and everything else.
I would rate Gigi Hadid’s pasta recipe a solid 9/10. My family has some Italian roots, so I have eaten a lot of homemade pasta and sauces in my lifetime. It wouldn’t be right to give this recipe a 10/10.
Nevertheless, for how easy this was to make and how delicious it was, a 9/10 is the perfect rating. If you are a pasta lover, this recipe is definitely worth your time. Your taste buds will thank you later.
