Sean Conover
Sean Conover said he chose to run to ensure the BOE is continuously focused on the children of the community and on improvement.
Specifically, a problem Conover would like to address is equity in RSD and education. He said the demographics of students and educators are unbalanced and that people need to learn from each others’ cultures to properly educate young students.
As a parent of a second grade student, Conover is concerned about the current virtual Fridays in the school calendar. He said the virtual Fridays are lacking and that the time frame for school on those days doesn’t give his daughter the same substance as the other four days in the week.
“Right now, they’re going to get further and further behind,” Conover said.
If he were to be elected to the BOE, Conover said he would prioritize doing what is best for the students, while also listening to what parents and educators say, in addition to considering opposing viewpoints.
Conover, who has a background in sales, said the BOE must try to continuously improve by listening to everyone and making the necessary changes.
“If you don’t listen, if you’re not getting that feedback, we’re not going to be able to make any changes, we’re not going to be able to come together as a team because there’s seven board members, there’s Dr. Miles, and everybody contributes a certain way,” Conover said.
What he wants you to know:
“Communication skills is the number one, but then be able to lead and model professional behaviors, have that strategic thinking, and be passionate,” Conover said. “Not only do I expect the educators to inspire our youth, but as directors of the Board of Education, we should also be able to help inspire the administration as well as the educators within the schools.”
