Recent ROSE award recipient Jaime Bayes has been on the BOE since 2015. Bayes decided to run for re-election this year to improve education and support provided by the RSD.

Bayes said if she were to be re-elected, she would want to continue to pursue initiatives that unify the school community, as she acknowledges there are divisions in the school district.

Bayes said providing quality education that promotes student’s creativity, critical thinking, character development and social skills is also what she would want to improve as a BOE member. Also, Bayes said she wants to continue to maintain a fair and balanced budget responsibly.

An active member of the Community, Outreach and Public Engagement committee (COPE), Bayes said she places importance on the voices in the school community and strives to advocate for the youth in RSD. She said her job as a BOE member is to make decisions in the best interest of the students and the school board needs to listen to what the community has to say.

“I believe we can only succeed with the permission and trust of our entire school

community – and that starts with building relationships at every level,” Bayes said.

Bayes said she will continue to make decisions that are for the best of the students in RSD.

“I want Rockwood to be a place where we show grace, seeking to understand and support one another,” Bayes said. “I want every child to get the academic education they so richly deserve. I want us to once again come together to recognize who we are and what we stand for – our children and their future.”

What she wants you to know:

Bayes said she truly cares for children and has spent many hours developing Rockwood Gives Back, a program that helps RSD students in need.

“We provide food to hungry children via our Got Your Back Pack program,” Bayes said. “The Giving Place is our donation center and provides warm clothes, personal care, and household items to families in need. It’s heartwarming work that is so well supported by our community.”
