Hema Srikanta, founder of the organization of the festival at Marquette, enjoys attending the festival. “Even though we are away from home, we are all able to get together here, and recreate what was back at home.” Srikanta said. “The best part is the kids participating and learning our prayers and chanting it here. Its really wonderful. They are born and brought up here but they shows lot of interest in learning and continuing our traditions.”

At the service primarily vegetarian food is served as most people who practice Hinduism don’t eat meat.

Srikanta also loves, that even though they as a group are away from their home,they can come together and celebrate the festival similar to how they did it at home.

The festival is a prayer service for the Elephant God, Ganesh, so they can have a year of the God’s blessing. Marquette has allowed them to host this service at Marquette for the last 24 years.

Celebrators of Ganesh Chaturthi came together yesterday, September 16, at Marquette to celebrate the holiday.

Tali Gorodetsky, junior, organized and led the Walkout. Never in a million years would I have imagined that there would be a 100 people here, she said. It shows that we have students who are willing to stand up for what they believe in.
