Really, Marquette?: Facebook models & school spirit

Really%2C+Marquette%3F%3A+Facebook+models+%26amp%3B+school+spirit

Hello MHS, it’s us again, Ted and Ellen. Although our last article bashed book readers pretty badly, we do not condone the burning of any book and/or book burning riots. In fact, we may have gone a little overboard by calling them unimportant. On the contrary we actually enjoy a good nonfiction book from time to time (At least Ted does).

Now to the issue at hand, there is a new virus plaguing the coveted halls of MHS: modeling.

Really, Marquette?

Are you really a model? Taking pictures on your dad’s old Kodak from a couple years back and adding some weird lighting doesn’t make you a model.

Oh, and that pouty face you’re making is interchangeable with constipation. We understand if you want to get a little adventurous for your senior pictures, but that’s where it should stop.

Students’ modeling pictures are popping up year round on Facebook, and it’s not only the seniors who are at fault. Juniors, sophomores and even freshmen are at fault for trying to join the likes of Tyra Banks and Gisele Bundchen. But when does it stop?

How can I sleep at night knowing that some freshman girl is probably at the Botanical Gardens striking an awkward pose copying what she saw a senior do? It’s our job Class of 2011 to set an example. Leave the modeling photographs to senior pictures and nothing else.

Speaking of setting examples, the seniors did an excellent job this year during Homecoming week. It’s no surprise that MHS suffers from a severe lack of school spirit, but this year things took a change for the better.

Really, Marquette?

You participated in Spirit Week? No really, we are shocked at how many spirited students we saw this year. It reminded us of the good old days in middle school when if you didn’t dress up you were weird, not the opposite. But let’s keep the ball rolling throughout the whole year!

There are so many talented students and sports teams here at our school that we really need to step up our game. Go ahead, gather groups of your friends and support a team you normally wouldn’t. Visit a swim meet, watch a field hockey game, and even check out a tennis match!

Spirit shouldn’t stop after Homecoming week. Instead let’s all do our part to make MHS a more spirited place, and who knows maybe next year even more people will get involved!
