New restaurant brings Italian flavor to Chesterfield

On the corner of Olive Boulevard and Chesterfield Parkway is a new Italian-style restaurant that will bring the flavors of the Hill to Chesterfield.
Charlie Gitto’s “From the Hill” is a fine Italian-style restaurant that officially opened on Thursday, Sept. 9, and replaced the former Uno’s Chicago Grill. The process for the rebuild started in April, Rose Marie Gennaro, an employee for Charlie Gitto’s, said.
The location of the new restaurant is the fourth site in the Charlie Gitto’s franchise.
Other restaurant locations are in St. Louis city and Maryland Heights.
Eva Johnston, social studies teacher, said she has eaten at the Charlie Gitto’s downtown St. Louis location at least half a dozen times.
“[They serve] good, hearty, dependable pasta,” Johnston said. “The service was also very good.”
The food mostly will be the same dishes served at the other locations Gennaro said.
Gennaro said one of the major reasons why Charlie Gitto’s decided to open a new location in Chesterfield is because West County would get the taste of the hill close to home.
“All of our food is also homemade,” Gennaro said. “Charlie has many recipes that were passed down to him.”
Johnston said that before going into Charlie Gitto’s for the first time, she assumed that the food would be good.
“I have high expectations for St. Louis Italian food,” Johnston said.
Johnston said she would recommend eating at Charlie Gitto’s to a friend.
Charlie Gitto’s also offers a catering service and their pick-up service, Charlie Gitto’s “To-Go!,” Gennaro said.
Sean Tyson, senior, wanted to work at Charlie Gitto’s because he was looking for a job and his dad knew Charlie Gitto, the creator of the St. Louis franchise.
“It’s a really fancy place and I’ll probably get good money,” Tyson said.
Management started training their employees over Labor Day weekend.
“[Charlie Gitto’s] should be a great place to take a girl out for dinner, like the Pasta House,” Tyson said.
          The restaurant is now open and the hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Charlie Gitto’s serves appetizers, salads, pasta, seafood and entrées. The appetizers range from $9 to $15, the pasta from $16 to $20 and entrées from $17 to $40.
