Mrs. Jorgensen has been the adviser to The Messenger for 12 years. She was co-editor of the Messenger when she was a junior and senior at Marquette. At Truman State University she worked as a reporter and then news editor of the Index newspaper. She then filled the role of associate editor of Detours magazine. She has earned a bachelors in English, master’s in education, and 30 hours of journalism coursework. In addition to advising the print and online newspapers at MHS, she also teaches the English ACT Prep course. She is also the Professional Learning Committee Leader for the Tenth Grade Language Arts teachers. Outside of school she is busy taking care of two boys: Elliott, 6, and Jonah, 2. Her favorite hobbies are gardening and cooking. She have a patio garden where she grows more than 10 varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. She loves to make meals with food from the backyard. She also enjoys traveling as often as she can. Her family's favorite destinations are Disney World and Sanibel Island. She also loves reading, watching TV, and shopping. She loves to eat sweet potatoes! She doesn't have one favorite TV show. She loves Top Chef and Next Food Network Star. She also keeps up with Newsroom, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Parenthood, The Good Wife, Mad Men, and several other sitcoms. She loves watching the newspaper come together from the brainstorming session where the staff is starting with a blank slate to distribution where students are quietly reading the newspaper in the lunchroom. She also loves the camaraderie the staff builds throughout the year. It’s an hour in my day that she know she’ll laugh and have fun. Hopefully she will continue as the newspaper adviser for many years.
