Club Spotlight: Math Contest Club

With all the math enthusiasts at MHS, it’s a mystery how a math competition club wasn’t established sooner. This is no longer a problem because MHS now has its own math competition club, the Math Contest Club.

The students of MHS had always been able to attend math competition, but up to this point, MHS had not had a corresponding club for practice and help.

Arjun Devraj, sophomore and president of the Math Contest Club, said he started this club in order to increase the number of math competitions MHS could attend.

“We did pretty well the last contest so I feel we could do even better with a math contest club,” Devraj said.

The aim of the Math Contest Club is to “improve the math skills of the marquette population as well as provide training and information for math competitions students can enroll in,” according to Devraj.

The future of the Math Contest Club will most likely include competing in the AMC 10 math competition in February as well as various other contests in the interim.

There are no mathematical prerequisites necessary for joining the club and people of all grade levels can join.

“If you like math and you want to do math competition you can join,” Devraj said.

If you or a friend are interested in joining, the first meeting will take place on Thursday, November 13 in Mr. Schmidt’s room. The club will continue to meeting every other Thursday following that date.
